Hardware

Hardware

For general building and hardware supplies, OBI and Praktiker, each with several branches

For appliances (large and small), electronics, cables, video, computer odds and ends...Media Markt: http://www.mediamarkt.hu/aruhazak/index.html
For bathroom and plumbing fixtures and supplies: Rustic in Obuda, on Becsi utca.
For telephone/video/electric hardware (if it's closer than OBI or Praktiker or if they don't have what you're looking for): a small shop at Raday utca 34
For extensive paint selection, there's a shop in Buda: ; and a shop on Klauzal ter.
Buying hardware in a strange city makes you conscious of the arbitrariness of the way stores lump stuff together back home. There are very few small, local shops that sell hardware...instead, there are a handful of very large warehouse stores (mostly branches of OBI or Praktiker), and a lot of tiny shops that specialize ... electrical supplies for satellite tv dishes; lighting supplies; paint stores; bathroom fixtures and supplies. Finding a box of nails near home is a challenge.
